To me a diversion is the act of diverting a person off a course or away from an objective.

This quote by Blaise Pascal (a French mathematician, inventor, physicist, writer and Christian philosopher) says it all; “If our condition were truly happy, we would not seek diversion from it in order to make ourselves happy.”
